At 3 and 5 times the recommended dosage administered over a 6 month period of time pimobendan caused an exaggerated hemodynamic response in the normal dog heart which was associated with cardiac pathology see animal safety.
Allergic reactions including hives and labored breathing appetite loss staggering lethargy cough.

Vetmedin is available in chewable tablets in two sizes.
Less serious side effects do not require you to stop the medication but you should check with your vet if any symptoms occur that worry you or seem unusual.
Pimobendan administered as an overdose orally may result in profuse vomiting.
Typically the medication is administered every 12 hours ideally one hour before mealtime.
Upset stomach the most common side effects of pimobendan are upset stomach symptoms.
Only for use in dogs with clinical evidence of heart failure.
Other serious vetmedin side effects include difficulty breathing shock seizures jaundice or a pet that is unresponsive aggressive or seems confused.
The following suspected adverse effects have been reported following clinical use.
Other potential side effects include loss of coordination seizures and uneasiness.
Patients should be treated symptomatically.
